A clear sign that fall is in full swing is that all coaches are getting really busy trying to put the final touches for the big push in the playoffs. The football regular season comes to an end this coming weekend, but the postseason matchups for the younger teams are already set. Last weekend the peewee AAA program lost their fifth game of the season during a tense contest against division champion Sunnybrooke on the score of 19-0. But the postseason fate of the team was being decided 10km to the East as Sherbrooke could not overcome St-Leonard and thus guaranteeing a third place finish for the St-Laurent team and a spot in Alouettes Cup Provincial playoffs against Chateauguay who finished 4th in the Blue Division with a 4-6 record. The team will close the regular season at home against Sherbrooke to try to reach the .500 plateau. The Atom program will impressively take part in the second Ballon d?Argent Provincial playoffs of its young history. The smaller Spartans won a 55-0 easy decision over the Lasalle Blue Warriors. They finish their season with 7-3 record (a team all-time high) and a impressive 3rd place in a 9-team division. They will now try to avenge a regular season loss to the second-place Lasalle Red Warriors and earn a first ever playoffs win.
The Mosquito are getting ever closer to completing a perfect season. They won their 9th game in as many contests, and are now on the brink of joining its illustrious predecessor like the 2005 Bantam or the 2010 Midget who are amongst the only Spartans teams to ever have gone undefeated in the regular season. It was not a walk in the park though, as Sunnybrooke, who?ll finish the season in 2nd place, prepared meticulously and gave St-Laurent a good ride. A final score of 22-18 attest of the closeness of the contest as both teams exchanged three TD each, and it came down to extra-points to determine the winner. Oscar, the newly arrived kicker is really having a huge impact on the team. He kicked through both extra-points attempts and thus scored the four points that are the difference on the scoreboard. The farewell to the 2011 Regular Season and the conclusion of the pursuit of perfection will take place at St-Laurent Park this Sunday. Then, the Mosquito Orange-and-Black will hope to make the first or four successful stops for the 2011 postseason at Chateauguay in the first round of the Ballon d?Argent Provincial Final.
The peewee AA program still has one more game to play at Chateauguay this coming weekend, before taking a short rest while awaiting to hear who they will play in their inaugural postseason game, which will be played as part of the WMFL championship day at Lasalle on Nov 5.
