Heavy bridge traffic in Montreal and a demonstration in Sherbrooke forced the St-Laurent Mosquito team bus to make two lengthy detours. It prevented the Spartans from doing their pre-game preparations as they reach beautiful Sylvie-Daigle park with only seconds to spare before kickoff. But if anyone in the Bulldogs camp thought this was going to work to their advantage, they found out quickly they were mistaken.
The young Spartans showed why they were already the champions-elect of the division and quickly took advantage of any inch left at their disposal by their opponent. RB's Keyshawn and Jalyd wore down the Sherbrooke defensive line, while the defense, anchored by the solid play of LB's Jeremy and Kendrix, remained rigid and allowed the team to take a convincing 14-0 lead at the half.
The score did not move until the opening drive of the fourth quarter, as the warm weather and thinned bench meant that many players felt fatigue as the game rolled along. QB Brendon starting mixing aerial plays and running plays involving heavy misdirection confusing a Bulldog team, that by then realized it was not going to be their day. A TD pass to WB Justin and a score on a reverse play by Yianni concluded two long possession by the St-Laurent team. The score was completed by the work of Long-Snapper Sufiyan and K Oscar who together paired to convert three TDs.
At the start of the weekend, only four teams at the provincial AAA-level were still boasting a perfect record. With the surprising loss of Repentigny to Chomedey in the Metro league on Saturday, there are only three left: The defending provincial champion Lasalle Warriors, the leaders in the WMFL Western Patriots and of course the Spartans who are now a perfect 8-0. Next Saturday, they will try to remain perfect by taking on Sunnybrooke at DDO in a battle of first against second.
