Despite playing without many of its usual starters, the St-Laurent Mosquito AAA program came up on top again this past weekend with a 37-7 win over the Joliette Pirates. Injuries, school and family commitments prevented a half dozen regulars to make the one-hour trip to Lanaudiere, and forced Head Coach Jimmy Skoulos to field a reworked lineup for the week 7 encounter.
The team showed its depth as no-one seemed to miss a beat. The young Spartans took a quick 16-0 lead from the opening two drives of the game, two TD'sconverted by the newly arrived kicker Oscar, who in spite of having only had one football practice, looked like an experienced veteran. The offensive side of the ball was turned over to backup QB Sufiyan, who kept the team moving forward notably with passes to both WB William (1 TD) and Felix. Though the defense let the clean sheet slip away late in the game, all players maintained the usual standard of play, anchored by the hard hitting work of LB's Jeremy and James.
The team is now 7-0 and will try to maintain its 100% record next week when it travels to Sherbrooke.
