The St-Laurent Spartans Mosquito program completed a clean sweep of its Labour Day weekend double-bill.

On Saturday, the young Orange & Black traveled across town to old rival St-Leonard, and took a half-time lead of 32-6, behind the work of QB Brendon who ran and completed passes to multiple receivers (Yiwei, Yianni, William, Justin and Sofiyan). The offensive work finished by a two-TD afternoon for Keshawn from the backfield on impressive runs.

The defense, anchored by Kessiah, took over and shut down the Cougars until the very last play of the game, allowing a final score of 32-14.

The second game of the weekend will remain a true Labour Day classic. The Spartans caravan moved a few kilometers West, to DDO, to play Sunnybrooke. Revenge was in the air, as the hosts had lost in the 2010 playoffs to St-Laurent by a single point. With only 3 minutes  to go it looked like they were having their way.  The West Islanders were up by 12 points (18-6) and appeared in control of the contest... until... LB Jeremy was switched to the tiring offense to try to inject some life into the squad. Four carries later, he had scored twice and also ran in a extra-point to seal an improbable and ultimately thrilling victory (19-18) for the Spartans and allowed them to remain at the top of the MRFL AAA Red Division with a perfect 4-0 start to the season.
